Winner of Folk Music Ontario's 2020 "Setting The Stage Award"
March 6-9, 2026
We will, through playful exploration, look at the 2 main components of the songwriting process: vocabulary and inspiration. You may be good at Wordle, that doesn’t mean you have all the vocabulary – musical and language – you need to nurture the seed of an idea into a song that you can call your own. Inspiration is everywhere, and that is one of the problems. How do we know which inspiration will actually help us achieve our songwriting goals. Speaking of goals, we will examine how important it is to know why you are writing and how that affects our process.
Bio
Original, locally-brewed songs with a unique flavour: Thom is inspired to write about beauty, small kindnesses, and whisky, sometimes all in the same song. Delivered with a powerful voice that can purr or growl, his observations and stories are delivered with equal parts reverence and wit. He is an avid naturalist, adventurer, and community music organizer with a deep commitment to the power of music in our daily lives. “I believe that we are at our best when we are creating. Making music together – around campfires, in the kitchen, or on the stage - is one of the most accessible forms of creation available to us.”
