Winner of Folk Music Ontario's 2020 "Setting The Stage Award"
February 28 - March 3, 2025
Stream description: The Music of Tin Pan Alley
The first 25 years of the 20th century saw enormous change in North American popular music, with the establishment of Tin Pan Alley as the new home of American music publishing, the emergence to a wider audience of genres like blues, jazz and country, the rise of recorded music and the birth of commercial radio. Rob Lutes will shine a light on this fascinating period of music and teach a series of songs representing nascent genres that would come to define the century. This stream is open to instruments of all kinds, as well as singers who may not have an instrument. Basic knowledge of chords will help you follow along.
