When you meet her, Jenie Thai is composed, pleasant, amiable, friendly, and — she won’t like the word but you have to live with it — sweet. She has an open face, long hair, a ready smile and an easy laugh.
And she is also tough, and gritty, and plays barrelhouse piano steeped in the blues — and if that wasn’t enough to get your head around, she also writes and sings tough and tender ballads, direct from her heart to yours.
There's a new album, Night on Fire, with a sold out show at Toronto's Hugh's Room and — while she now calls Toronto home — she lives on the road, and there’s dust on her shoes, love in her heart, and a whole lot of music in her soul.

About Angie Hilts
Angie Hilts is a Toronto-based singer, songwriter, vocal coach, and band leader. Since receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Contemporary Music in 2010, Angie has been building her career, leading The Rucksack Willies, performing in The Double Cuts and developing important musical and professional relationships in the city and internationally.
In 2017 Angie launched her own solo career and is currently working on writing her second full length album. This has been an exciting direction for Angie, taking her to new levels as an Independent Canadian artist.
Angie released her music video “Shine” in May 2018 which caught the eye of CBC’s Fresh Air producer. Having been played on CBC Fresh Air has led to some great gig opportunities, including opening for Jill Barber in Prince Edward County.
Having played venues all over Ontario and with a monthly residency at The Cameron House in Toronto Ontario, Angie and her band have developed a strong indie folk sound.
With more than 12 years of teaching experience Angie continues to pursue her career as a private music teacher. In 2023 she founded Pine Sound Studio which is a music school for all ages and stages. If you are interested in trying a lesson with Angie, feel free to contact her today!
