Winner of Folk Music Ontario's 2020 "Setting The Stage Award"
October 16-18, 2026
There’s a songwriter in each of us! In this series of workshops, we'll start with classic elements of a song: song form, melody, lyrics, and chord patterns/progressions. Then we’ll set aside traditional songwriting concepts to give space for songs to come to life without constraint, straight from your heart (and your gut)! Underlying our conversations and songwriting practice will be a deep commitment to honouring all ideas and showing up for one another (and ourselves) with openness. With that openness in mind, we’ll discuss and experience the benefits of co-writing.
These sessions will also include activities to get us out of our own heads and into our bodies, such as physical movement and meditations. We will focus on tools and methods to inspire our songwriting, and we’ll take time to question the “why” and “how” of it all: Why do certain songs move us? How do we create a healthy, regular songwriting practice? How do we release ourselves from judgment and get out of our own way? How do we make room for songs to find us?
Please join us for this embodied exploration of songwriting in a truly inspiring setting.
